The music that only you can make
There’s a certain kind of magic that happens when you make music just for you. Not for the algorithm. Not for the A&Rs. Not for the playlist gods.
Just for you.
You see it all the time with big artists. Noah Kahan blew up by writing about depression and small-town life. Billie Eilish changed the game by staying weird and whispery when everyone else chased power-pop. Fred again.. made dance music out of voice notes from friends and old iPhone recordings.
None of that stuff was made to “perform.” It was made to process. To heal. To feel something. And somehow, that ends up connecting the most.
A few years ago, I took a solo trip to Costa Rica during a rough time in my life. It helped me reset. I journaled, I healed. But I didn’t talk about it publicly. It felt too personal, too sacred.
Three years later, I finally shared the story. I paired it with a track I made from that experience. The post blew up. That song is now one of my top performers.
Not because I cracked the algorithm…But because I cracked myself open a little.
So here’s your reminder: Make the song that scares you. Make the one that’s too honest. Too weird. Too sad. Too spiritual. Too you. Make the music no one else could make.
It might not go viral tomorrow. But it might change someone’s day. Or life. And maybe even your own. Just make sure the world knows about it.
Keep going,
Jon
