How to book your dream gig
This past July I played one of my dream gigs. I opened for artists I’ve been a fan of for years. I debuted in the city of Chicago, which also has a rich history for me. Everything lined up. But it was 6 years in the making…
If you're trying to book better gigs, ask yourself
Do you know who books the shows you want to play? I'm talking venue owners, talent buyers, festival organizers. Make a spreadsheet and include their contact info.
Are you building real relationships with them? This includes email, DMs, and ideally first-name handshakes in person.
Are you showing up in person and online? Both are equally important. You need to be out in the flesh supporting artists and shows. People need to know who you are. But your online presence weighs just as much since we're always on our phones.
Are you consistently putting out music and content? This is huge. This is how you stay top of mind.
Are you actually following up? Like I've mentioned in past newsletters and in my videos, following up is crucial. Talent buyers and venue owners have literally told me to bug them because they're so busy. The festival I'm playing in a couple weeks? It took me months of following up to finally sign the contract.
The phone doesn’t ring if you’re not out there. Build the brand. Nurture the network. Take the long game seriously.
Need help with any of it? That’s why I started this thing. Let’s talk.
